About the Event

For many African families, starting a business is about more than earning an income—it is about creating opportunity, building wealth, supporting family, and leaving something meaningful for the next generation. But combining family, money, ownership, and business decisions can also create unique challenges.

Experts from the University of St. Thomas Family Business Center will lead an interactive conversation covering:

  • Why family businesses are different

  • Common sources of conflict in family businesses

  • Communication and expectations across generations

  • Balancing family relationships with business decisions

  • Preparing the next generation for leadership

  • Discussing roles, responsibilities, ownership, and succession

  • Defining what long-term success looks like for your family

  • Practical conversation tools families can continue using at home
