About the Event

Owning a home is one of the most powerful pathways to long-term financial stability and generational wealth. Yet for many African immigrant families, structural barriers—such as limited access to credit, fewer assets for collateral, and low-income backgrounds—can make the journey to homeownership challenging.

Minnesota Africans United invites you to our First-Time Homebuyers Education Workshop designed to equip individuals and families with the knowledge, tools, and relationships needed to successfully navigate the home-buying process and achieve the American Dream.

This interactive workshop will provide step-by-step guidance on:

  • Understanding credit scores, credit history, and financial readiness

  • Preparing for homeownership and building long-term financial stability

  • The mortgage process and available financing options

  • The real estate process, including working with agents and understanding title

  • Practical strategies to overcome common barriers to homeownership

Following the educational session, participants will take part in a business networking and mentorship hour, where they can connect directly with mortgage lenders, real estate professionals, and financial advisors. These experts will be available to answer questions, offer personalized guidance, and help participants begin building trusted relationships for their homeownership journey.

This workshop series is delivered in partnership with mission-aligned sponsors whose support allows MAU to provide culturally responsive education, expand access, and deepen community impact.

Whether you are exploring homeownership for the first time or preparing to buy in the near future, this workshop is designed to meet you where you are and help you move forward with confidence.
